Chemistry and Science are always happening and are being reported in the news regularly. The student is expected to turn in one news report each week for a total of 8 during the Fall term.
Find an article in a newspaper or magazine that is pertinent to chemistry and of interest to you. After reading the article, write a one-page report consisting of a paragraph, which summarizes the article, and a paragraph, which gives your reaction to the article. Turn in your report AND the original article (or a copy) stapled together.
Each student should be prepared to discuss his or her article in class on Monday of each week of the term. Good students will do one report each week. In addition to the in-class discussion, students are expected to post their reports on the Web-board by noon each Monday starting on Sept. 18, 2000. Interaction to the news articles by web-board is encouraged. Web board participation will enter into the news report grade.
Some copies of Science News are located in the area at the south end of the hall on First Floor of the Science Center. These articles are interesting and have chemistry related articles.
DUE DATES: THERE ARE EIGHT REPORTS DUE DURING THE TERM. THE FIRST REPORT WILL BE DUE ON 9/18 AND AT LEAST ONE PER WEEK UNTIL EIGHT HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED in hard copy and on the web-board.
